Keeping an eye on your credit report is a good thing to do. If you have a negative report you can take off late payments from credit reports by being thorough and taking care of them.

The complete process to do so will be time consuming so you will need to be alert of this before you start so be patient while you are waiting. Do not believe any promises from emails or advertisements that someone promises they can fix your credit quick. While there are many credit repair companies out there, the of good reputation and legitimate ones will not issue any sort of guarantee. You will need patience as you amend poor credit reports.

To begin with, order your credit report. Get it from each of the three companies. Look it over and highlight the negatives. You will have to start the dispute process if you want something deleted and learn from their websites or documentation how to do so. They will have complete explanations of the process of disputing a credit report so follow all of their steps so there is not denying your claim once they get it.

Collect all your documentation that you have for your dispute. You will want copies of your statements and proof of date of payment which are copies as well. You won’t provide originals. This really is common practice to never give your originals. You won’t have substantiation if you do.

Numerous credit bureaus have online systems where you can dispute a poor reporting on your credit report. But writing a letter is also helpful. The company has to respond in thirty days so send your dispute letter by means of certified mail with signature requesting services. This gives you legal confirmation of the letter being received.

When the claim is received the reporting company has a window of thirty days to look into and get back to you. This is where patience is involved so you will have to wait. If your claim is not responded to in thirty days by the reporting company and a decision is made then they must eradicate it from your credit report. This is the law and you want to do this. This is decision for you to make as they must eradicate it even if you were in reality late on your payment.

If a company denies your application for deletion of the negative listings inside the thirty days you can still fight it. You are able to act and file a formal dispute. They must again respond within that thirty day window or remove the derogatory mark on your credit report. It is a chance that they will take too long and be obliged to delete it.

Inaccuracies occur and you can get rid of late payments from credit reporting agencies that do not have the appropriate information. Just be patient and follow the process. Keep a folder with each agency and your correspondence so you can have an accurate record and remember what you did since it takes awhile to complete.
